What is Lampwork (Art Glass) TOP
They are glass beads that are indiviually handmade by an artist who uses a stationary torch to melt the glass and form it into a bead. These are not machine made, so each is individual and unique. The beads are all annealed in a kiln to give them more strength and durability. What Type of Glass is Used for the Beads TOP
Majority of the glass beads used are made of from "soft glass" rods which come in different colors and varieties. Effetre (Moretti), Lauscha and Bullseye seem to be the most frequently used by a large number of the US lampwork artists.
There is another type of glass bead I enjoy designing with called Borosilicate ("Boro") also referred to as Pyrex which is a "hard glass". Once the glass rods are torched and manipulated into beads it creates incredibly beautiful organic effects. Generally in the description of the item I will indicate if it is a "Boro" piece. What Types of Findings and Components are Used TOP
All of the findings and components used in my work are sterling silver. From the beautiful Bali/Thai/Turkish beads used to the charms, clasps, toggles, earring wires, head pins even down to the crimps. If it looks like silver, it is! In addition, I will use pearls, semi-precious stones and gems along with Swarovski crystals to add more elements of interest. |
